The Day I Stopped Waiting for Perfect Training Weather

It started as a trail run.

Nothing crazy — just 5k through a local park. I checked the weather: cloudy, no rain until 5pm. I had two hours.

I was 800 metres in when the rain came sideways.

No warning. No build-up. Just a full switch from overcast to soaking.

The old me would’ve turned around. But that day, I didn’t.

I kept going.

Not because I felt hardcore. Not because I had something to prove. I just… didn’t care anymore.

My clothes were soaked, but they weren’t sticking to me. My hoodie didn’t feel like a sponge. My shirt held its shape. And when I stopped for a stretch under a tree, I didn’t look like I’d melted.

I realised in that moment: I’ve trained through worse — hangovers, stress, 5am darkness — but I used to let a bit of rain decide for me?

That felt stupid now.

I don’t wait for “perfect” anymore.

I train outside a lot more these days — not just runs, but bodyweight stuff, bag carries, hill sprints. Fresh air makes me sharper. Weather just makes it more interesting.

What I wear had to change with that.

Oversized tees that don’t cling. Hoodies that stay warm even when they’re damp. Simple layers that don’t fall apart if I rub against a tree mid bear crawl.

That’s where Fittux came in.

Not techwear. Not waterproof this or thermoregulated that. Just heavyweight, tough, built-to-move gymwear that handles bad weather and worse terrain.

I wear the same oversized tee on runs, in the gym, and under my jacket on a dog walk. The hoodie’s been through rain, cold, and three “accidental” naps on the sofa. Still fits the same.

If you train outdoors, your gear matters.

You’ll be cold. You’ll get wet. You’ll sweat. That’s part of it. But your clothes shouldn’t be part of the problem.

Don’t wait for the right conditions.

Don’t wait for Monday.

Don’t wait for your gear to fall apart before you upgrade.

Check out the Fittux clothing range that handles it all - oversized tees, thick warm hoodies, running t-shirts, compression shorts and more.
